Help with Bagpipe Player, files (bww), and downloads
In order to view, print, or play Bagpipe Player (bww) files:
Bagpipe Player must be installed.
Bagpipe Player Installation
- Download Bagpipe Player
(for PCs only - not MACs)
- Select open or run to start the installation process.
- Alternatively, Bagpipe Player may be downloaded and saved to your hard drive, then run to install
- Bagpipe Player will be installed in the Program Files\Bagpipe Player folder unless otherwise specified during installation
- Please note the opportunity to acknowledge Mr Wickstrom for developing this software at his site.
Viewing, playing or printing Bagpipe Player files from this site
- METHOD 1: Double-click the All Tunes, and/or All Exercises
zip files. on most pcs it will open up the zip file and you can see al the tune
titles. Double click one, and it will open Bagpipe Reader and play it

2: Download all the tunes and/or exercises in .bww format to your hard drive by
right-clicking on All Tunes, and/or All Exercises.
- Select Save and choose a folder to save the compressed ZIP file
- Navigate to the folder in which you saved the ZIP file, and extract the contents to your tunes folder
- If Bagpipe Player has been installed, navigate to your tunes folder and double click on a bww file (
) to load the tune into Bagpipe Player
Listening to MIDI files from this site
- Click on a MIDI icon (
). The tune should open in your default midi player and start playing
- MIDI files are provided as an alternative to using Bagpipe Player, but will only play the tune, with no options to change tempo, tuning or other settings
Quick Tips for Using Bagpipe Player
- Changing the tempo of a tune, can be found under configure, set play options
- To play only a selected portion of a tune, position the mouse pointer to the beginning of the selection, then click (hold down the left button) and drag the mouse to the last bar of the selection. Pressing the play button will only play the selected (red) portion.
- To select a line of music to the end, position the mouse pointer to the left of the line and click
- To set the tuning (if your chanter seems sharp), click on configure, set play options, and click set next to Low A to Bb
.BMW files
Older version of Bagpipe Player files which have a .bmw suffix can be converted to the newer .bww format using a file conversion utility found on Doug Wickstrom's site. After downloading and installing the conversion utility, Bagpipe Player will be able to import and convert .bmw formatted files.
